Chandigarh: Hours after Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Sunday sought an investigation into "corruption allegations" against him, Punjab industries minister Sanjeev Arora resigned as the managing director of Hampton Sky Realty Ltd and eight other companies of the group. For the resignation, Arora cited his "appointment as a member of the legislative assembly (MLA) followed by his appointment as the minister in the Punjab govt".Addressing a press conference earlier in the day, Jakhar said there was a 2016 SEBI ruling that found Arora "guilty of misleading shareholders". Jakhar also pointed to an ED raid on Arora and said while AAP called that vendetta, Punjab govt was now "targeting" former SAD leader Ranjit Singh Gill, who has now joined BJP, in a "similar manner". "I am not here to defend or accuse anyone, but want to ask why haven't they taken any action in an open-ended case," Jakhar said. Annoucing Arora's resignation, Ludhiana district public relations office (DPRO) issued a statement, which said: "Arora, on Sunday, intimated to this effect the board of directors, Hampton Sky Realty Ltd through a resignation letter, stating that he tendered his resignation from the office of managing director of Hampton Sky Realty Ltd, with effect from Aug 3, 2025."The statement added: "The assumption of this high public office (ministerial post) necessitates his undivided attention and unwavering commitment to the service of the state of Punjab and its people." The statement also quoted Arora saying: "In light of the paramount public interest and constitutional responsibilities, not only is it incumbent upon me, but it is even unequivocally untenable for me to continue holding the office of managing director in the company."
