Mumbai: It is because of Dr BR Ambedkar's Constitution that people of all sections of the society get equal rights and justice, said Chief Justice of India Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai after being felicitated by the Maharashtra legislature on Tuesday. "Babasaheb Ambedkar, spoke about supremacy of the Constitution and believed that judiciary should be free of interference from the executive. Our judiciary, legislature and executive has to work as watchdog and custodian of citizens' rights," Gavai said in his address to the legislature. Quoting Ambedkar, Gavai said Constitution cannot be static, it has to keep evolving. "I am a follower of Babasaheb Ambedkar, who did a great job in bringing women into the mainstream. It is because of him that justice is delivered to the deprived sections of the society. Droupadi Murmu is the first President from the tribal community and she has received this honour because of Babasaheb. Today, the Amrit Mahotsav of the Indian Constitution is being celebrated and everyone is happy about it," He further said it is an opportunity to work for the society. "In times of peace or in any kind of adverse situation, the Constitution unites our country together. Ambedkar had said that India attained independence after a lot of struggle so it is necessary for the rulers of the country and the states to work unitedly by putting aside differences of caste and creed.
