Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader V D Satheesan has demanded the resignation of the health minister following the death of a woman in the building collapse at Kottayam Medical College Hospital. He said the most disturbing aspect was that no rescue operation was carried out because ministers claimed the building was unused."The health minister and the cooperation minister visited the site and declared the building was closed and unoccupied. Hence, no rescue efforts were initiated. However, relatives of patients said the building -- and its restrooms -- were being used even that morning. On what basis did the ministers claim it was unoccupied? Their statement halted rescue attempt, costing a woman her life. Health minister must take responsibility," said Satheesan.He accused the minister of merely reading prepared statements and failing to act decisively at a critical moment.
